About this Performance
LA Phil Insight welcomes experimental R&B musician serpentwithfeet for an intimate conversation in the run-up to the West Coast premiere of his dance-theater collaboration Heart of Brick at The Ford, featuring music from his latest album GRIP. Both works find their home on the dance floor of Black gay clubs and the intimate moments that happen there. “Going out clubbing, going out dancing, raised me a second time,” serpentwithfeet said. “I learned more about my body. I discovered more about the way it took up space. I found a new sense of humor and a new way to establish community. Also just discovering new music that I hadn’t heard was always a magical thing. It was sort of like a second coming-of-age.”
Free and open to the public. Registration via the dublab website. The event will take place at dublab studio. Reception at 7pm followed by the conversation at 8pm.
LA Phil Insight is generously supported by Linda and David Shaheen.
