Over the course of 11 studio albums, singer-songwriter Devendra Banhart has forged an idiosyncratic—but instantly recognizable—sound that seems to have been informed by nearly every kind of music being made on the margins of the mainstream. On his latest album, 2023’s Flying Wig, he uses the gentle hum of synthesizers and the gentler hum of his voice to seek out moments of peace amid mourning.
