Program Description

Community Residencies at The Ford exemplifies the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association’s dedication to the communities and young enterprising professionals of Los Angeles. Through collaborative efforts with local youth-oriented organizations, Community Residencies aims to enable these organizations to broaden the opportunities available for youth-centered career development in the arts and beyond. This year, The Ford will be extending invitations to three different organizations with focuses on varying career fields.

Meet Our Community Residencies

This year, The Ford is piloting three new extensions of the Community Residencies program.
While we have some pre-existing programs that will continue, we are excited to embark in these partnerships with the following organizations.

Las Fotos Project

For the fourth consecutive year, The Ford's Community Residencies program will invite 5 photographers from the Las Fotos Project’s Creative Entrepreneurship Opportunities (LFP CEO) program to capture selected concerts. LFP CEO guides teenage girls and gender expansive youth to expand their professional skills and portfolios through hands-on experiences.

This partnership highlights The Ford's commitment to LA Phil's dedication to Los Angeles communities and youth by broadening opportunities for youth-centered career development in the arts.

LA Commons

In conjunction with The Ford’s LA Soundscapes (LASS) shows, we are excited to continue our partnership with LA Commons to provide crafts artists with an opportunity in art workshop development and pilot an Artist and Venue apprenticeship program for young professionals interested in live-event production.

LA Commons, a project of Community Partners, has worked in neighborhoods throughout Los Angeles since 2003, facilitating artistic processes that tell dynamic neighborhood stories. We hope you join us for our LASS crafts this summer!

SAMO Youth

This year, The Ford is piloting a Community Residency with SAMO Youth, an award-winning, highly competitive mentorship program in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area for diverse college-aged students interested in pursuing environmental careers.

As a participant of Community Residencies, SAMO Youth participants will be guided through a series of professional development sessions to learn about horticulture consulting for drought-tolerant and/or native-plant landscaping, and how The Hollywood Bowl and The Ford are improving facility operations to align with environmental stewardship.
