The 2009 KCRW World Festival series at the Hollywood Bowl continues on Sunday, July 12, at 7p.m., with the venue debuts of singer/songwriter Ray LaMontagne with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, Jenny Lewis and Blitzen Trapper. KCRW DJ Anne Litt hosts.

A much lauded singer/songwriter, Ray LaMontagne released his much anticipated album Gossip in the Grain in October 2008. While his previous two albums Trouble and Till The Sun Turns Black introduced a plaintive, regretful, beautifully broken man, LaMontagne’s latest album shows an ability to loosen up. Rolling Stone raved about the album and especially LaMontagne’s voice saying in the review it was “full of the warm yearning of a young Van Morrison…”

Rilo Kiley frontwoman Jenny Lewis is in the midst of a nationwide tour in support of her internationally acclaimed solo album Acid Tongue, the follow-up to her classic solo debut Rabbit Fur Coat. Rolling Stone called Acid Tongue “excellent,” lauding Lewis as “indie rock's most sharp-elbowed songwriter, a crafter of taut meditations on love, sex and politics that are full of violent emotions and, occasionally, plain old violence,” and Pitchfork has called the album “immediately pleasurable, brimming over with hooks and songwriting techniques that announce themselves with openness and surety”. Lewis is also proud to announce the forthcoming film “Welcome to Van Nuys.” The documentary records the making of Acid Tongue and features the live tracking of several songs from the record as well as behind the scenes, candid footage from the recording at Sound City Studio in Van Nuys, CA.

Hailing from Portland, Orgeon, Blitzen Trapper has been likened to Neil Young, Bob Dylan, and the Beatles, demonstrating their ability to explore various genres with ease. Their 2008 album Furr is full of songs about communing with nature, wolfmen, and murderous cowboys, and according to the Austin Chronicle, “delivers a more polished, coherent vision while not sacrificing the Portland sextet's vividly eclectic contortions through alt-folk and garage rock.”

One of the largest natural amphitheaters in the world, with a seating capacity of nearly 18,000, the HOLLYWOOD BOWL has been the summer home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic since its official opening in 1922, and is home to the best and brightest in all genres of music. The 2004 season introduced audiences to a revitalized Hollywood Bowl, featuring a newly-constructed shell and stage and the addition of four stadium screens enhancing stage views in the venue. To this day, $1 buys a seat at the top of the Bowl for many of the Los Angeles Philharmonic's concerts. While the Bowl is best known for its sizzling summer nights, during the day California's youngest patrons enjoy "SummerSounds: Music for Kids at the Hollywood Bowl," the Southland's most popular summer arts festival for children, now in its 42nd season. In January 2009, the Hollywood Bowl was named Best Major Outdoor Concert Venue for the fifth year in a row at the 20th Annual Pollstar Concert Industry Awards; the Bowl's summer music festival has become as much a part of a Southern California summer as beaches and barbecues, the Dodgers, and Disneyland.
