    Associate Conductor Miguel Harth-Bedoya leads the Los Angeles Philharmonic with guest soloist Sir James Galway, who returns to the Hollywood Bowl for the first time in more than ten years, on Tuesday and Thursday, July 30 and August 1 at 8 p.m. The program opens with Strauss' tone poem, Don Juan, and continues with Galway performing William Bolcom's Lyric Concerto for flute and orchestra, which was commissioned by and written for the flutist. The program closes with Dvorák's Symphony No. 7.

    Backbeat Live pre-concert events take place at the Patio, one hour prior to the Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday concerts; free to all ticket holders. The August 1 session features KCRW's Sandra Tsing Loh interviewing Miguel Harth-Bedoya.

    Los Angeles Philharmonic Associate Conductor MIGUEL HARTH-BEDOYA is Music Director of the Fort Worth Symphony and the Auckland Philharmonia in New Zealand. As one of the most exciting young conductors in America, he has an active guest conducting schedule, which includes appearances with the New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, Seattle Symphony, Quebec Symphony, and the Mexico National Symphony. Festival appearances include Grant Park, Tanglewood, Rencontres Musicales d'Evian in France, the Domaine Forget International Festival in Quebec, and the Musicarchitettura International Festival in Italy. Born in 1968 in Lima, Peru, Miguel Harth-Bedoya holds degrees in conducting from The Curtis Institute of Music and The Juilliard School. Harth-Bedoya last conducted at the Bowl in 2001.

    Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, flutist SIR JAMES GALWAY is internationally regarded as both a matchless interpreter of the classical repertoire and a consummate entertainer whose charismatic appeal crosses many musical boundaries. His unique sound, superb musicianship, and dazzling virtuosity have made him one of the most respected and sought-after performing artists of our time. Through his extensive worldwide tours, numerous best-selling recordings, and his frequent television and video appearances, Galway has gained an audience of millions of music lovers around the world. In 1997, Musical America named him Musician of the Year, and Queen Elizabeth knighted him earlier this year. Galway last performed at the Hollywood Bowl in 1988.
