  • The San Francisco-Based Ensemble Returns As Part of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Deck the Hall Series

    TUESDAY, DECEMBER 18, 2007, AT 8 PM

Grammy-winning vocal ensemble Chanticleer returns to Walt Disney Concert Hall Tuesday, December 18, at 8 p.m., with A Chanticleer Christmas. Continuing their much-loved tradition, this captivating ensemble raises their exquisitely pure voices to bring the bright spirit of Christmas to the Hall in this highly-cherished holiday program.

Touted by The New Yorker as “the world’s reigning male chorus,” Chanticleer delivers an eclectic program of music, ranging from Gregorian chant to contemporary masterpieces. In addition, classic holiday selections from their recently released Christmas CD Let It Snow – such as “O Come, All Ye Faithful,” “Carol of the Bells” and “Oh Holy Night” - are also included.

Deck the Hall, presented by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association, is a series of festive performances throughout the month of December (including two concerts on New Year's Eve) featuring an array of exceptional artists offering seasonal music. Other performances include The Count Basie Orchestra, December 20; Holiday Sing-Along, December 22; and Belinda Carlisle and Rufus Wainwright in Paris à Go-Go, December 31.

CHANTICLEER will perform more than 100 concerts in 2007/08, the Grammy-winning ensemble’s 30th Season. Praised by the San Francisco Chronicle for their “tonal luxuriance and crisply etched clarity,” Chanticleer will tour 22 states across the United States this season, including appearances at, The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C. and New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. In January 2008, the ensemble will perform at prestigious venues in major European cities: Paris, Luxembourg, Bruges, Vienna, Prague, Budapest and Vilnius. In Fall 2007, Chanticleer’s newest Christmas CD, Let It Snow, was released by Warner Classics and Jazz. Let It Snow features the ensemble with the Chanticleer Holiday Orchestra performing such favorites as “Feliz Navidad” and “The Christmas Song.” Chanticleer, based in San Francisco, has developed a remarkable reputation for its vivid interpretations of vocal literature, from Renaissance to jazz, and from gospel to venturesome new music. With its seamless blend of 12 male voices, ranging from countertenor to bass, the ensemble has earned international renown as “an orchestra of voices.”
