Midori, who appeared as a soloist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic last season, returns to Walt Disney Concert Hall in a recital performance on Sunday, October 30, at 7:30 p.m. The Association presents her recital as part of the eight-concert Colburn Celebrity Series, which spotlights the finest virtuosos in the world today. Midori and pianist Charles Abramovic perform in a program featuring Mozart's Violin Sonata in A major, K. 305; Prokofiev's Violin Sonata No. 1 in F minor, Op. 80; Schoenberg's Phantasy, Op. 47; and Beethoven's Violin Sonata No. 7 in C minor, Op. 30, No. 2.

Midori also hosts a pre-concert chamber music performance prior to her scheduled recital on stage at Walt Disney Concert Hall starting at 6:30 p.m. with students from the USC Thornton School of Music, where Midori holds the Jascha Heifetz Chair. Joining Midori in Dvorák's "American" Quartet are violinist Yoo-Kyung Oh, violist Kaila Potts, and cellist Tina Guo. Performing in Schubert's Quartettsatz with Midori are violinist Yang Xu, violist Luke Maurer and cellist Lars Hoefs.

The Colburn Celebrity Series continues on November 17, 2005 with guitar duo Sérgio and Odair Assad; December 7, 2005 with pianist Piotr Anderszewski; January 31, 2006 with pianist Radu Lupu; February 12, 2006 with violinist Joshua Bell; February 22 with pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet; March 15, 2006 with pianist Murray Perahia; and concludes with a dual recital featuring tenor Ian Bostridge and pianist Leif Ove Andsnes on May 3, 2006.

The violinist MIDORI made her historic debut at the age of 11 when she was introduced as a surprise guest artist by conductor Zubin Mehta at the New York Philharmonic's annual New Year's Eve concert in 1982. Since that night over 20 years ago, she has established a record of achievement which sets her apart as a master musician, an innovator, and a champion of the developmental potential of children. Midori's performing schedule is balanced between recitals,
chamber music performances and appearances with the world's most prestigious orchestras. Highlights of her 2005-06 season include appearances at the Schleswig-Holstein, Salzburg, Tannery Pond, MDR Musiksommer, Tuscan Sun, Dubrovnik, and Menton International Music Festivals; four recital tours throughout the season; and concerto appearances throughout Europe, the U.S., Australia, and Japan. Among the conductors with whom Midori will collaborate in the 2005-06 season are Christoph Eschenbach, Michael Tilson Thomas, Marin Alsop, Kent Nagano, and Mariss Jansons. In 1992 Midori founded Midori & Friends, a non-profit organization in New York which brings music education programs to thousands of underprivileged children each year. Two other organizations, Music Sharing, based in Japan, and Partners in Performance, based in the U.S., also bring music closer to the lives of people who may not otherwise have involvement with the arts. Her commitment to community collaboration and outreach extends beyond these organizations to her work with young violinists in master classes all over the world, to her University Residencies Program, to her Orchestra Residencies Program, and to her positions on the violin faculty at the Manhattan School of Music and as Jascha Heifetz Chair at USC's Thornton School of Music. Midori's most recent CD release is a recording of the Mendelssohn E-minor and Bruch G-minor concertos with the Berlin Philharmonic and Mariss Jansons on Sony BMG, for whom she records exclusively. Midori's violin is the 1734 Guarnerius del Gesu "ex-Huberman", which is on lifetime loan to her from the Hayashibara Foundation.

Pianist CHARLES ABRAMOVIC has won critical acclaim for his international performances as soloist, chamber musician and collaborator with leading instrumentalists and singers. As a solo recitalist, he has performed throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe, and has played at major festivals in Berlin, Bermuda, Dubrovnik, Vancouver, Aspen, and Newport. Abramovic made his solo orchestral debut at the age of fourteen with the Pittsburgh Symphony. Since then he has appeared with numerous orchestras, including the Baltimore Symphony, the Nebraska Chamber Orchestra, the Florida Philharmonic, the Colorado Philharmonic, and the Pennsylvania Sinfonia. Highly regarded as a collaborator, Abramovic appears regularly with such stellar artists as violinists Sarah Chang, Robert McDuffie, Midori, Viktoria Mullova, violist Kim Kashkashian and flutist Jeffrey Khaner. With these and other artists he has performed in the world's most prestigious concert halls, as well as for radio and television broadcasts in Asia, Europe, and Canada. He has recorded for EMI Classics with Sarah Chang, and for Avie Recordings with Jeffrey Khaner. His recording of the solo piano works of Delius on the DTR label has won high praise in both the United States and Europe. Abramovic is highly dedicated to performing and recording contemporary music, and has recorded works by Milton Babbitt, Gunther Schuller, Joseph Schwanter and others for CRI, Bridge, and Koch International Classics. Abramovic is a professor of Keyboard Studies at Temple University's Boyer College of Music.
