Assistant Conductor Yasuo Shinozaki leads the Los Angeles Philharmonic in a program of works by Takemitsu and Tchaikovsky at Walt Disney Concert Hall on Friday and Saturday, December 5 and 6 at 8 p.m. and on Sunday, December 7, at 2 p.m. The program is highlighted by the orchestra's performance of Takemitsu's From me flows what you call Time, featuring the acclaimed five-man NEXUS percussion ensemble. The program concludes with Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 6, "Pathétique."

NEXUS has given more than 80 performances of Takemitsu's From me flows what you call Time since the work's premiere in Carnegie Hall with Seiji Ozawa and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. The work, written by Takemitsu for the NEXUS, was commissioned by Carnegie Hall for the hall's 1990 centennial celebration. NEXUS recorded this work with the Pacific Symphony Orchestra under Carl St. Clair on the Sony Classical label in 1998.

Founded in 1971, NEXUS is recognized as one of the foremost chamber ensembles in the world. Their solo concert repertoire includes early 20th century xylophone ragtime music, group improvisations, music inspired by non-Western cultures, works by the world's most renowned composers, and compositions by its members. The group has appeared with the BBC Symphony, The Cleveland Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, and the orchestras of Atlanta, Dallas, and Detroit. NEXUS has received international acclaim for its performances of Takemitsu's From me flows what you call Time, which was composed for the ensemble and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. They have performed at the Adelaide Festival, the BBC Proms, and at Ravinia and Tanglewood.
