  • Program Continues Los Angeles Philharmonic's World Music Series

TUESDAY, DECEMBER 2 AT 8 PM

    Presented in association with KCRW

The Los Angeles Philharmonic presents acclaimed bluegrass singer Alison Krauss in her Walt Disney Concert Hall debut on Tuesday, December 2 at 8 p.m. Krauss is joined by Union Station, featuring Jerry Douglas, and is the second artist to appear on the Philharmonic's new World Music series at Walt Disney Concert Hall.

Krauss helped bring bluegrass to a new audience in the '90s. Blending bluegrass with folk, she was instantly acclaimed from the start of her career, but it was her platinum-selling 1995 compilation Now That I've Found You that elevated her to mainstream star status. Between her 1987 debut Too Late to Cry and Now That I've Found You, she matured from a child prodigy to a versatile musician, making some of the freshest bluegrass of the late '80s and early '90s.

The Los Angeles Philharmonic's presentation of Alison Krauss and Union Station is the second of four concerts in the Philharmonic's World Music series. The series continues on April 2 with Mariza joined by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and concludes on April 24 with Zakir Hussain and Masters of Percussion.

After she signed a record deal with Rounder Records at age 14, ALISON KRAUSS' first release, Too Late To Cry, came out when she was 16. A Grammy nomination came at 18, and she has gone on to win, collectively and individually, 14 Grammy awards, the latest as producer of Nickel Creek's This Side. Since her teens, she has toured with Union Station, though the band membership has changed several times since she joined at the invitation of bassist and songwriter John Pennell. In 1993, Alison joined the cast of the Grand Ole Opry, and in 1995 she released Now That I've Found You: A Collection which has sold more than two million copies and garnered Alison four Country Music Association awards. The band's latest release is Live, a double CD recorded at the Palace Theater in Louisville.
