LOS ANGELES (May 7, 2020) – At Home With…, the series launched by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association, Classical KUSC (Los Angeles), and Classical KDFC (San Francisco), offers its latest installment – a split week featuring celebrated pianist Yuja Wang and Principal Conductor of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra Thomas Wilkins, broadcasting from their respective homes as they share their favorite music and reflections on the unifying spirit of music with KUSC host Brian Lauritzen.
At Home With… evolved in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the temporary closures of cultural venues across the world and continues weekly with different notable artists as they bring the healing power of music to California and beyond.
At Home With Yuja Wang airs Tuesday, May 12, and Wednesday, May 13, and is followed by At Home With Thomas Wilkins, which airs Thursday, May 14, and Friday, May 15.
A different episode of At Home With… will be broadcast locally on Classical KUSC and Classical KDFC four times a week, Tuesday through Friday; episodes will also be syndicated nationally through a partnership with PRX and available for streaming internationally.
Each At Home With… episode presents each artist’s curated musical selections along with their personal reflections on the music and their experience of our current environment. Interviewed by KUSC’s Lauritzen, the artists welcome listeners into this experience in order to bring people together and provide comfort and inspiration through music in these uncertain times.
Yuja Wang made her LA Phil debut at the Hollywood Bowl in 2011 and has been a close collaborator with the orchestra ever since, including being the featured soloist for the orchestra’s 2019 tour in Asia. She was also featured in the recent Deutsche Grammophon release of John Adams’ Must the Devil Have All the Good Tunes?, which was written for Wang, the LA Phil and Gustavo Dudamel.
Thomas Wilkins was appointed Principal Guest Conductor of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra in 2008 and was named Principal Conductor in 2014. He’s also conducted the LA Phil at Walt Disney Concert Hall. Additionally, Wilkins is currently Music Director of the Omaha Symphony; Artistic Advisor, Education and Community Engagement of the Boston Symphony; and the Henry A. Upper Chair of Orchestral Conducting, Jacobs School of Music, at Indiana University.

Thomas Wilkins is Principal Conductor of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. He has held a titled position at the Hollywood Bowl since 2008, when he was named Principal Guest Conductor; he became Principal Conductor in spring of 2014. Additionally, he holds positions as Music Director of the Omaha Symphony, a post he has held since 2005; the Boston Symphony’s Artistic Advisor, Education and Community Engagement; and Indiana University’s Henry A. Upper Chair of Orchestral Conducting, which was established by the late Barbara and David Jacobs as part of that University’s “Matching the Promise Campaign.” Past positions have included Resident Conductor of the Detroit Symphony and the Florida Orchestra (Tampa Bay), and Associate Conductor of the Richmond (VA) Symphony. He has also served on the music faculties of North Park University (Chicago), the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond.
Critical superlatives and audience ovations have continuously followed Yuja Wang’s dazzling career. The star pianist, celebrated for her charismatic artistry and captivating stage presence, is set to achieve new heights during the 2019/20 season, which features recitals, concert series, as well as season residencies, and extensive tours with some of the world’s most venerated ensembles and conductors. Season highlights include Yuja’s year-long “Artist Spotlight” at the Barbican Centre, where she curates and performs in four distinct events: the first London performance of John Adams’ newest piano concerto (premiered by her in spring 2019) titled Must the Devil Have All the Good Tunes? with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Gustavo Dudamel, which they took to Boston and New York City; recitals featuring cellist Gautier Capuçon and clarinetist Andreas Ottensamer; and she concludes the residency with a solo recital.
Brian Lauritzen is an award-winning host for Classical KUSC. Brian can be heard Monday through Thursday on Classical KUSC from 3PM to 7PM. He is also the host of the Sunday program A Joyful Noise. Additionally, Brian writes and produces features for KUSC’s concert broadcasts, including those with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Los Angeles Opera, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Los Angeles Master Chorale, and Piano Spheres. His work as part of these series has been broadcast internationally by NPR, American Public Media, and the WFMT Radio Network. During his tenure at Classical KUSC, Brian has interviewed dozens of top classical musicians and artists. Among them are Gustavo Dudamel, Itzhak Perlman, Dawn Upshaw, Valery Gergiev, Plácido Domingo, John Adams, and many others. Brian is also the host of several critically acclaimed podcasts: Behind the Curtain at LA Opera, the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra podcasts, and Concrete Voices – real stories from the streets of Hollywood.
