Free Day-Long Event Celebrates the Hollywood Bowl with
Food Tastings, Live Entertainment, and Contests

The third annual Taste of the Bowl, a free day-long event celebrating the opening day of the Hollywood Bowl box office, features live entertainment and music, tours, food sampling, contests, and much more. Taste of the Bowl takes place Saturday, May 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The opening day of the Bowl box office for the 2003 summer season has extended box office hours until 6 p.m. Taste of the Bowl is designed to welcome visitors to the Bowl and familiarize them with the summer programs, parking, public transportation, dining & picnicking, the grounds, and different seating areas at the Bowl. Taste of the Bowl is sponsored by The Patina Group.

Live entertainment at several locations around the Bowl highlight the summer's programming, and includes a disco dance party and contest, performances by the Henri Mancini Institute of Alumni Jazz Band and Brass Quintet as well as the Latin/soul/funk/blues sounds of Natural Afrodisiac. Characters from The Wizard of Oz, as well as a daring group of disco roller skaters, will direct patrons from one performance to another. Patrons will be able to take home photos of themselves on the world famous Hollywood Bowl stage. Activities for the entire family include visiting the Hollywood Bowl Museum as well as following free tours, creating murals, collages, and instruments.

K-MOZART will again sponsor an amateur conducting contest; the winner will conduct the National Anthem onstage at the Hollywood Bowl this summer. Preliminary rounds begin at
11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.; finals are at 1:30 pm. Los Angeles Philharmonic flutist Catherine Ransom will lead a flute workshop for middle school students backstage at the Bowl beginning at 2:30 p.m.

Food-tasting stations feature diverse offerings from the Patina Group restaurants. The Bowl's snack, drink, and luncheon concessions will be open, or visitors can pack their own food and enjoy an alfresco lunch around the Bowl's many picnic areas.

Local radio stations participating in the day's events are KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO, CLASSICAL 105.1 K-MOZART, The Surf 1260 AM, and KOST. K-EARTH 101 and KFI will both broadcast live from the Hollywood Bowl throughout the day.

Last year, more than 5,000 Southern Californians broke the sales record by visiting the historic amphitheater for Taste of the Bowl, purchasing approximately 15,000 tickets to summer events, the largest amount ever sold on a box office opening day.
