Los Angeles, CA (April 24, 2018) - The War On Drugs and Alvvays will make their Hollywood Bowl debuts on Sunday, September 16, 2018 as part of KCRW's World Festival.

Philadelphia-based sextet The War On Drugs reside at the blurred edges of American music. The group won a 2018 Grammy Award for "Best Rock Album" for their fourth full-length album, A Deeper Understanding, released on Atlantic Records in August 2017. For this album, bandleader Adam Granduciel teamed up with engineer Shawn Everett (Alabama Shakes, Weezer) to challenge the notion of what it means to create a fully-realized piece of music in today's modern landscape, calling on his bandmates - bassist Dave Hartley, keyboard player Robbie Bennett, drummer Charlie Hall, and multi-instrumentalists Anthony LaMarca and Jon Natchez - continuously throughout the process to create a collaborative "band record" in the noblest sense. A Deeper Understanding, which followed the band's acclaimed 2014 album Lost In The Dream, features the lead single "Holding On" and the 11-minute "Thinking of a Place."

Opening the evening will be Toronto-based indie-pop band Alvvays. Fronted by lead singer, guitarist and songwriter Molly Rankin, Alvvays released their second album Antisocialites in September 2017. Antisocialites was named one of the best albums of 2017 by The Guardian, NME, Stereogum and more, as it showcases the band's Scottish pop-influenced sounds; themes of reckless romance, dark humor, isolation and loss; and Rankin's phonetic twists, quick-sung rhymes and irreverent syllable-play. Antisocialites is the follow-up to Alvvays' 2014 self-titled debut.

    About the Hollywood Bowl

One of the largest natural amphitheaters in the world, with a seating capacity of nearly 18,000, the Hollywood Bowl has been the summer home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic since its official opening in 1922 and plays host to the finest artists from all genres of music, offering something for everyone. It remains one of the best deals anywhere in Los Angeles; to this day, $1 buys a seat at the top of the Bowl for many classical and jazz performances. In February 2018, the Hollywood Bowl was named Best Major Outdoor Concert Venue for the 14th year in a row at the 29th Annual Pollstar Awards and was awarded the Top Amphitheater prize at the 2017 Billboard Touring Awards. For millions of music lovers across Southern California, the Hollywood Bowl is synonymous with summer.
