Los Angeles, CA (November 14, 2017) – The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association announced today the first details of the 2018 Hollywood Bowl summer season, with the entire season to be announced in February 2018.
Trailblazing pop-rock group The Go-Go’s are set for the July 4th Fireworks Spectacular, with three performances, July 2, 3 and 4. Joining the Grammy-nominated and multi-platinum-selling recording artists is the Los Angeles Philharmonic, led by Thomas Wilkins. Considered one of Southern California’s top Independence Day pyrotechnic displays, the annual July 4th Fireworks Spectacular at the Bowl has become a local family tradition. Tickets for children ages 12 and under are half price.
The Go-Go’s broke into the Los Angeles music scene in 1978 and will be celebrating their 40th anniversary with this hometown show. The band rose to fame after the release of their 1981 debut album, Beauty and the Beat, which was No. 1 on the Billboard charts for six consecutive weeks. The album, which featured their hit singles “Our Lips Are Sealed” and “We Got the Beat,” went triple-platinum in the U.S. and was on Rolling Stone’s list of “500 Greatest Albums of All Time.” The Go-Go’s also made history as the first all-female band that both wrote their own songs and played their own instruments to ever top the Billboard charts. In 1982, The Go-Go’s were nominated for a Grammy Award for Best New Artist. The band became the foundation of the early ’80s pop-rock sound, blazing a new trail for the DIY ethic in general, and for women in music in particular. In 2011, 30 years after the release of their debut album, The Go-Go’s were honored with a star on the world-famous Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Dates for other popular annual concerts at the Hollywood Bowl have also been set, including: Opening Night (June 16), Sing-A-Long Sound of Music (September 22), Smooth Summer Jazz (August 19), The Tchaikovsky Spectacular (August 24 & 25) and Movie Night (September 2).
With the Hollywood Bowl serving as the summer home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic for more than 90 years, the 2018 season continues the tradition of offering classical concerts every Tuesday and Thursday night, with star-studded programming.
