Los Angeles, CA (September 1, 2016) - Icelandic experimental rock band Sigur Rós returns to the Hollywood Bowl for the first time in a decade, bringing new interpretations of songs from their illustrious career as well as highly anticipated new music. For this intimate performance, the band will play without the string and brass sections that have been characteristic of their shows, focusing instead on the core unit of the band itself. The evening's events will begin at a new start time of 7:45 PM, with the International Space Orchestra performing an opening set with covers of Sigur Rós songs.

Started in Reykjavík in 1994, Sigur Rós is known for its ethereal sound and lead singer Jónsi's falsetto voice, blending melodic, classical, experimental and minimalist elements across seven albums to date. The band first gained international recognition with their 1999 album Ágætis Byrju, which won the 2001 Shortlist Music Prize for Artistic Achievement in Music. A series of festival performances, world tours, and critically acclaimed albums ensued, including 2002's (), featuring a raw and darker sound; 2005's Takk, featuring tighter arrangements and brighter tones; 2012's choral and ambient Valtari; and the harder and more electronic 2013 album Kveikur. This will be the first time since the tour leading up to the album () that Sigur Rós will perform new material ahead of album recording sessions.

The International Space Orchestra is the world's first orchestra composed of space scientists, with members from NASA Ames Research Center, SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) Institute, Singularity University and the International Space University. The International Space Orchestra is an experiential and hybrid research laboratory, where space scientists are implementing, deconstructing, performing, singing, mixing, modifying, and designing musical acts. It serves as a call to action to imagine and disrupt future human relations to space science, and to adapt space science to creative needs.

In April 2017, Sigur Rós will return to Los Angeles to make their Walt Disney Concert Hall debut, performing three nights (April 13, 14, 15) with the Los Angeles Philharmonic for their first time playing publicly with an orchestra since shows for their unreleased work Odin's Raven Magic in 2002-3. The band will play career-spanning sets including fan-favorites (with orchestral accompaniment) and new, unreleased music (without orchestra). The performances are a part of the LA Phil's Reykjavík Festival, co-curated by Icelandic composer Daníel Bjarnason and LA Phil Conductor Laureate Esa-Pekka Salonen.
