Los Angeles Philharmonic and Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra dedicate concert to the memories of those who perished in September 11th events

Los Angeles, CA - The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association has announced that a portion of the proceeds from the upcoming Thursday, September 13th performance (8 PM) at the Hollywood Bowl will be donated to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. Audience members will also have the opportunity to make donations directly to the American Red Cross.

The Los Angeles Philharmonic concert, conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen and featuring Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, will be a tribute to the memory of those who perished in yesterday’s events. “This is a way that the Los Angeles community can come together to comfort and support each other and to offer assistance to a key relief organization during this crucial time,” said Deborah Borda, Executive Vice President and Managing Director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky said, “At this time of national mourning, our community stands together to render whatever support and assistance we may be called upon to provide, and to demonstrate to the world that America will carry on, and that America will prevail."

The evening’s performance features a single work, All Rise, by Wynton Marsalis. The piece is a perfect symbolic call to our nation “…to rise together for a better world. A world where our spirits unite and boundaries do not exist…” says Music Director Esa-Pekka Salonen. The 12-movement piece combines classical, latin, and jazz influences in a seamless integration of various musical idioms meant to celebrate a vision of the “togetherness and ascendance” of humanity. Marsalis comments, “Our music is about uplifting the human spirit and what we achieve when we work together. We know that everyone supports the relief efforts in their own way, and ours is through music – while it’s a humble offering, it’s the best we can do.”

Park & Ride will operate from all regular locations with the exception of the Westwood Federal Building lot and the Santa Monica location, both of which will be closed until further notice.
