    WHAT:
    World renowned virtuoso violinist Itzhak Perlman leads the Los Angeles Philharmonic in a program of music by Beethoven, Tuesday, September 6, at 8 pm. The concert opens with Perlman playing a dual role as conductor and violin soloist in Beethoven’s Two Romances. The program also includes the cheerful Symphony No. 8 and the popular and powerful Symphony No. 5.

    Throughout his career, Itzhak Perlman has been a recipient of the nation’s highest accolades and honors, including four Emmy Awards, 15 Grammys, the Kennedy Center Honors, the Medal of Liberty and the National Medal of Arts. His recent performances include the 2007 State Dinner for Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, hosted by President George W. Bush and Mrs. Bush; and the 2009 the Inauguration of President Barack Obama. Perlman has been a frequent guest performer with the Los Angeles Philharmonic since his first appearance with the orchestra in 1966. As conductor, he has appeared with many of the world’s other great orchestras including the New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, Boston Symphony and the Berlin Philharmonic.

    Perlman is a dedicated musician, teacher, and humanitarian. The Perlman Music Program was established by Perlman and his wife in 1995 to provide young musicians the unique opportunity to foster their talents in a supportive musical community. He currently teaches at the Juilliard School, where he holds the Dorothy Richard Starling Foundation Chair. Perlman, who contracted polio at a young age, has performed in benefit concerts for the Rotary Foundation’s campaign to End Polio Now. In all his remarkable achievements, Perlman speaks on behalf of the disabled and his devotion to their cause is an integral part of his life.
