This year, the Bowl's annual Great American Concert salutes New York, with Principal Conductor John Mauceri and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra performing music from and about the Big Apple. Vocalists Rebecca Luker, Judy Kaye, and Davis Gaines join the celebration on August 30, 31, and September 1, as does singing NYPD officer Daniel Rodriguez. Program highlights include Bernstein's Mambo from West Side Story, Jerry Goldsmith's September 11 (which was written for the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra two days after the tragic events of that date), and John Williams' Liberty Fanfare, with an all-American fireworks display to end the tribute. The weekend also marks John Mauceri and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra's 250th concert together.

DAVIS GAINES performed the title role in Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera more than 2,000 times, before more than five million people, during his run on Broadway, in Los Angeles, and in San Francisco, where he received the Bay Area Critics' Award for Best Actor. Most recently, Gaines portrayed the sailor Anthony Hope in the 20th anniversary concert productions of Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd in Los Angeles, London, New York, San Francisco, and at Ravinia. He has appeared in three PBS Great Performances broadcasts (Sweeney Todd with the San Francisco Symphony, Broadway Originals with the Boston Pops, and Jerry Herman's Broadway at the Bowl), as well as the televised specials of the 1994 Kennedy Center Honors and the opening ceremony of the 1998 Goodwill Games.

Additionally, Gaines has sung for five U.S. Presidents and with virtually every major symphony orchestra in North America, as well at Carnegie Hall with the New York Pops. He last appeared at the Hollywood Bowl in 1999.

JUDY KAYE currently stars on Broadway in this season's smash hit Mamma Mia, for which she was nominated for a 2002 Tony Award and a 2002 Drama Desk Award. She was honored with a 1988 Tony Award for her portrayal of the prima donna Carlotta in The Phantom of the Opera and received the Theatre World Award, The Los Angeles Drama Critics' Circle Award, and her first Drama Desk nominations playing Lily Garland in On the Twentieth Century. Kaye starred on Broadway as Emma Goldman in Ragtime, a role she also played in Los Angeles where she received the Theatre LA Ovation Award. Other roles she has played range from Rizzo in Grease to Musetta in La bohème for the Santa Fe Opera to great musical heroines such as Annie Oakley and Maria Von Trapp. Kaye has also worked in film and television. She last appeared at the Bowl in 2000.

Tony Award-nominated actress REBECCA LUKER was last seen on the Great White Way as Marian in The Music Man. She also appeared on Broadway as Magnolia in Show Boat. She created the role of Lily in The Secret Garden and portrayed Christine in The Phantom of the Opera. Luker has performed leading roles at regional theaters throughout the country in Leave It To Jane, A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd, and Carousel. In concert, she has appeared in Pardon My English, Primrose, and Babes In Arms at the Library of Congress, and in No, No, Nanette, Trouble in Tahiti, and Gay Divorce at Carnegie Hall. Luker's album Anything Goes: Rebecca Luker Sings Cole Porter (Varèse-Sarabande) is currently available, as is the Show Boat cast album. Other recordings include Strike Up The Band (Elektra/Nonesuch) with conductor John Mauceri. She last appeared at the Bowl in 1997.

Tenor and seven-year veteran of the New York Police Department DANIEL RODRIGUEZ has been a serious student of singing since the age of ten. Aside from his regular duties at the NYPD, he has become one its official singers performing at departmental retirement parties, groundbreakings, and public events such as singing the National Anthem at a New York Jets vs. New York Giants football game. His remarkable tenor voice captured the public with his rendition of the National Anthem at a New York Yankees game, and he has since released his first album The Spirit of America. Recent engagements have included The Today Show, Live with Regis & Kelly, Good Morning America, Larry King Live, The Late Show With David Letterman, The World Series, and ABC TV's New Year's Eve 2002 with Peter Jennings. Rodriguez' most notable recent performances were at the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City and at the White House in March for President Bush. He makes his Bowl debut with these concerts.
