Here, my severed digit (from Artaud in the Black Lodge )
About this Piece
Artaud in the Black Lodge is a contemporary work of opera-theatre [with text by Anne Waldman] exploring the imagined psychic connections between Antonin Artaud, William S. Burroughs, and David Lynch. Existing in a Bardo-like place where dreams and reality intersect and the individual is confronted by demons of their own making, it is a work about the suspension of time, communication across realms, and the altering of sublunary experience. Currently in development with Beth Morrison Projects, and being created for Timur and The Dime Museum, the songs presented tonight are from the Burroughs section. Originally created for the 21c Liederabend, Op. 3 — Beth Morrison and Paola Prestini, creative directors —they were premiered on November 22, 2013 at the BAM Harvey Theater, as part of BAM’s 2013 Next Wave Festival, with Timur Bekbosunov singing the part of “William Burroughs.”
