Zheng Cao

About this Artist

Mezzo-soprano ZHENG CAO was personally chosen by Seiji Ozawa to sing in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony for the 1998 Winter Olympic Games in Japan and appeared with him again in the role of Suzuki in Madama Butterfly for her debut with the Boston Symphony Orchestra in February 1999. She recently debuted with Opera Pacific in this role and returned to California to re-enact it with the San Francisco Opera. Cao sang the role of Zerlina in Don Giovanni when she made her return to the Los Angeles Opera last spring. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and a Master’s Degree from The Curtis Institute of Music; she was a winner at the 1993 Palm Beach Opera International Vocal Competition and a 1992 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions finalist. Cao made her Hollywood Bowl debut in 1997.
