Alex Isley

About this Artist

Alex Isley is a natural artist destined to shine in the music industry. Her first foray into music can be attributed to her childhood, where she started performing at the age of six. Alex emerged onto the scene as someone that showed a lot of promise, and although her sonic lineage is traceable – with her father, Ernie, and his brothers forming the R&B/Funk group The Isley Brothers – her ethereal vocals are distinctly unique.

Born in New Jersey and raised in Los Angeles, Alex’s musical influences mirror her upbringing — but not in the sense of where she lived, but of what she consumed. Her grandmother was an opera singer and began classically training Alex at age 12. Aside from her musically rich family, Alex loved listening to timeless artists like Michael Jackson and Mariah Carey.

In 2005, she enrolled in UCLA’s Ethnomusicology (Jazz Studies) program and exposed herself to all kinds of music from around the world. After graduating college, Alex purchased her first MacBook and launched her career as an independent artist. The 20-something aspiring singer taught herself how to produce music and narrowed in on her boundless creative potential.

In 2012, Alex released her debut EP, The Love/Art Memoirs. Despite the challenges she faced along the way with investing in studio equipment and learning the ins and outs of audio engineering, Alex’s determination propelled her to become a rising star. She went on to release projects consistently over the years including Dreams in Analog (2013); L U X U R Y (2015); The Beauty of Everything, Pt. 1 (2018); The Beauty of Everything, Pt. 2 (2019); and her collaborative EP with Jack Dine, Wilton (2019).

Then, in 2020, the pandemic leveled the playing field for artists of all genres as everyone struggled with lockdowns and stay-at-home orders. And yet, Alex thrived. She participated in NPR Music’s Tiny Desk (Home) Concert series, and that same year, she joined forces with Masego and Jack (Dine) to release the dreamy single Good & Plenty.

From there, her prestige grew considerably before Alex earned two co-producer credits on Lucky Daye’s sophomore album, Candydrip, which was nominated for Best R&B Performance, Best R&B Album, and Producer of the Year, Non-Classical at the 65th Grammy Awards (2023). Most recently, as a featured artist, Alex was nominated for Best R&B Performance and Best R&B Song at the 66th Grammy Awards (2024) after she collaborated with Robert Glasper and SiR on Back To Love.

Now, with a fully formed vision, she’s navigating the roles of artist and mother while captivating audiences with her soulful melodies one track at a time.
