Paulo Pederneiras

About this Artist

Paulo Pederneiras is the founder, general director, and artistic director of Grupo Corpo. Since 1975, he has led the company and shaped its technical excellence, distinctive aesthetics, and unmistakable style—qualities that have made Grupo Corpo a name recognized and celebrated across five continents.

Deeply involved in every stage of each production, he has designed the lighting for all of the company’s works and created the stage design for many of them. His creative reach extends beyond the stage: He conceived exhibition designs for major shows such as Artes Indígenas e Arqueologia (part of Mostra do Redescobrimento, celebrating the 500th anniversary of Brazil’s discovery), Imagem e Identidade (featuring a collection from the National Museum of Fine Arts in Rio de Janeiro), and O Tesouro dos Mapas, a cartography exhibition that toured Brazil’s four largest cities.

Pederneiras also created the art installation Borboletas do Rosa, marking the 50th anniversary of Joāo Guimarães Rosa’s novel Grande Sertão: Veredas; and the Memorial da Imigração Japonesa in Belo Horizonte.
