Hailed by Rolling Stone as “a rare 21st century guitar hero and the undisputed future of the blues,” Kingfish has become one of the most celebrated and influential guitarists of his generation, earning a Grammy Award, multiple Blues Music Awards, and worldwide acclaim for his electrifying performances, soulful songwriting, and unmistakable guitar voice.
Raised in Clarksdale, MS, the birthplace of the Delta blues, Kingfish grew up immersed in the music of B.B. King, Albert King, Buddy Guy, and other legends, but quickly forged a sound entirely his own. Blending blues with rock, soul, funk, R&B, rap, and pop, he has introduced a new generation of listeners to the genre while earning the respect of longtime blues fans around the world.
His 2019 debut album, Kingfish, spent an extraordinary 91 weeks atop Billboard’s Blues Albums chart and earned his first Grammy Award nomination. Its follow-up, 662, won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album, while 2023’s Live In London earned another Grammy nomination and further cemented his reputation as one of music’s most dynamic live performers.
With Hard Road, Kingfish reaches another major artistic milestone. Produced by longtime collaborator Tom Hambridge alongside Patrick “Guitarboy” Hayes and Nick Goldston, the album finds Kingfish moving beyond traditional blues to embrace a broader musical palette while remaining firmly rooted in the emotional honesty and guitar mastery that define his sound.
Blending searing blues with rock, funk, R&B, soul, and contemporary influences, Hard Road showcases Kingfish’s continued growth as a guitarist, vocalist, and deeply personal songwriter. Songs such as “Voodoo Charm,” “Nothin’ But Your Love,” and “Bad Like Me” reveal richer melodies and a newfound restraint that allows every note and every lyric to carry greater weight. Hard Road also marks the inaugural release from Red Zero Records, the independent label founded by Kingfish and longtime manager Ric Whitney. Tonight at the Hollywood Bowl, audiences will experience the extraordinary musicianship, emotional depth, and explosive live performance that have made Kingfish one of the defining blues artists of his generation. Joining him on the famed Hollywood Bowl stage is Delta Jam, his touring band featuring Randy Stevens (Charleston, SC) on bass, Chris Black (Shelby, MS) on drums, and Deshawn “D’Vibes” Alexander (Denver, CO) on keys.
