David Melville

About this Artist

Originally from England, David Melville came to the United States in the Broadway production of Hamlet in 1995. He co-founded Independent Shakespeare Co. (ISC) with his wife Melissa Chalsma in 1998. ISC’s Griffith Park Free Shakespeare Festival currently performs for 45,000 attendees every summer. 

As an actor, David recently appeared in Discord at the Geffen Playhouse. For ISC, he has played Hamlet, Richard II, Iago, Macbeth, Henry V, Benedick, Dr. Pinch, Feste, Charles Dickens in A Christmas Carol; a one-person Nicholas Nickleby. TV and film: Lawrence of America; Ironclad; TheUnderstudy and Perfection. 

As a composer, David has written music for ISC productions of  A Midsummer Night’s Dream, As You Like It, Twelfth Night, The Taming of The Shrew and numerous Dr. Pinch and the Pinchtones vaudeville shows and Red Barn David’s first full length musical. David trained at the Webber-Douglas Academy, London.
