Alan Mautner

About this Artist

Alan Mautner is a Los Angeles native where he has been performing as a cellist and conductor. He has performed with many Orchestras including the Pacific Symphony, Riverside Philharmonic, Redlands Symphony and the Desert Symphony of Palm Desert. He has performed with such notable artists as James Taylor, Boz Scaggs, Kristen Chenowith, Andrea Bocceli, Glen Campell, Melissa Manchester and Denis DeYoung. He has recorded for Barry White, Phil Collins, the Goo Goo Dolls, Snoop Dogg and Christina Aguilara. He has also performed with his Piano Trio “Trio deBois”in Egypt and the Calabasas Chamber Orchestra in Paris.

Mr. Mautner joined the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts (LACHSA) Faculty in 1990. He succeeded his father as the director of the String Ensemble and String Chamber Music coordinator. In 1994 he became the conductor of the LACHSA Symphony Orchestra. Under his baton the Orchestra has performed in the Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Orange County. The Orchestra was selected in 2011-13 as an LA Philharmonic partner school and performed with the LA Philharmonic in a side by side concert in 2015. Mr. Mautner also assisted conductor James Conlon of the LA Opera in a joint production of Benjamin Britten’s opera “The Little Sweep” performed at LACHSA.

In 2014 Mr. Mautner assisted in the formation of Youth Orchestra Los Angeles (YOLA) at LACHSA, a partnership with the LA Philharmonic Education division. This program services 4th and 5th grade students living in the surrounding communities of Cal State LA. It has since grown to over 150 students with plans to expand to their new home at Torres High School in East LA. He currently conducts the YOLA Torres Youth Orchestra and the YOLA at Torres Chamber Ensemble as well as assisting as a teacher mentor. He has also been active in the other sites of the program at the Expo Center and HOLA (Heart of LA) as a guest conductor.

Mr. Mautner has been the Music Director of the La Mirada Symphony since 2014 They perform 4 free concerts to that community in addition to outreach concerts to the youth of Norwalk/La Mirada. The Orchestra has also performed with the Animaniacs and Classic Albums Live. Mr. Mautner was raised in Downey and attended Cal State Fullerton where he received his Bachelor of Music degree in Cello Performance. He has also taught at the Orange County School for the Arts, Concordia University in Irvine, Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State Los Angeles where he currently teaches string methods. He also conducts the Wildwood Senior High Music Festival Orchestra each summer in the Big Bear area. He currently resides in Buena Park.
