About this Artist
Thelma Davis Martin is one of the original Soul Train dancers. Her career started early with formal ballet classes that progressed to Dunham technique, then modern jazz, West African dance, and, finally, freestyle urban street dance. Thelma began performing professionally in the Southern California area at the early age of seven. She has studied with such greats in the dance world as Claude Thompson, Michael Peters, Debbie Allen, Lula Washington, and Nzingha Camara.
In recent years, Thelma has been a community activist in addition to working mainly with children doing oratorical competitions. Because of her extensive knowledge of Soul Train and her continued interaction with former dancers and the respect she has gained from them, she is working on an upcoming Soul Train project.
