Kenneth Brown II

About this Artist

Kenneth Brown II’s dedication to music began at age eight, inspired by The Trumpet of the Swan—a story of finding one’s voice through the horn. Today, the Inglewood-born trumpeter, composer, and recording artist uses his music to give voice to his own story.

Brown holds a B.A. from Morehouse College and a Master of Music from UCLA, where he studied with Jens Lindemann, Keyon Harrold, and Dan Rosenboom. His academic rigor is matched by a prolific professional career. A GRAMMY Emerging Artist and Monterey Next Generation Festival finalist, Brown has performed on world-class stages including Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, and the Staples Center.

His versatility has led to collaborations with a diverse array of industry titans, including Adam Blackstone, John Mayer, Earth Wind & Fire, Leon Thomas, Kamasi Washington, and Toni Braxton. Brown’s credits include the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards with Roddy Ricch, The Voice with John Legend, and Ryan Seacrest New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with BigXthaPlug. His work spans from the Apple TV+ soundtrack Lady in the Lake to the Video Game Awards with Snoop Dogg. Additionally, he composed the score for the award-winning short film Deserve, which earned international selections in Athens and Brazil.

Beyond the stage, Brown is a community leader. In 2020, he launched the Front Yard Groove (FYG) series to bring live music to Los Angeles during the pandemic. This initiative led to his band, The Kenneth Brown Collective, becoming the first to return to the historic Miracle Theater.

Driven by a mission to blend technical mastery with social impact, Brown aims to perform, compose, and educate at the highest level. His latest album Hoopin’, bridges the gap between his classical foundations and contemporary jazz innovation. It is available on all major streaming platforms.
