Double Bassist DAVID CONNOR is pursuing his passion for performance and education as one of the first ever Community Embedded Musicians with the Houston Symphony. Through this role he strives to bring music to all Houston communities through solo, chamber, and interactive educational performances. Appointed in 2018 as Assistant Principal Double Bass of the Houston Ballet Orchestra, David maintains a busy orchestral performing schedule including recent performances with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and Britt Festival Orchestra.

David serves on the faculty of Texas Southern University where he teaches classical and jazz double bass and electric bass. Since 2017, he has been the bass instructor at the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s YOLA National Festival.

As a member of the New World Symphony from 2013-15, he collaborated with musicians within the organization and from afar. Highlights include curating and performing a recital for the Inside the Music concert series entitled “Listen to the Bass,” and coaching youth orchestras in Medellin, Colombia and Geneva, Switzerland. He also designed and co-lead the “Collaborative Songwriting Residency” with his band The alt Default as a winner of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation Arts Challenge. This program taught song-writing to middle school students.

 David attended the North Carolina School of the Arts, Peabody Institute, Carnegie Mellon (BFA), and Rice University (MM). His primary teachers and mentors are Timothy Pitts, Paul Ellison, Jeffrey Turner, and John Hood. He has been a fellow at the Britten Pears, Aspen, Music Academy of the West, and Sarasota summer festivals.
