Mezzo-soprano and Los Angeles native, SUZANNA GUZMÁN (Marcellina) appears as a soloist with orchestras and opera houses around the world including the Metropolitan Opera, Washington National Opera, LA Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Opéra de Genève, Opéra de Nice, Spoleto Festival, and Singapore Festival, just to name a few. Known internationally for her portrayal of Carmen in Bizet’s Carmen, she has created roles in premieres by Menotti, Catán, Krouse, Heggie, Picker, Nyman, and most recently, as a company member of Yuval Sharon’s The Industry in their productions of War of the Worlds and Europeras 1 & 2 with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and of the mobile opera Hopscotch. Honors include a Grammy nod for 2006 Best Classical Recording, a Helen Hayes Award nomination for her performance as the Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors, an honorary PhD from Occidental College, and the Edwin Lester Lifetime Achievement Award for Service to Arts and Community.
