Mikki Kunttu is a lighting designer, set designer and screen content designer for theater, live entertainment, television and visual arts.

Mikki Kunttu has created designs for over 100 contemporary dance productions all over the world. His contemporary dance collaborators include such world-renowned artists as Jiri Kylian, Tero Saarinen, Akram Khan, Sidi Larbi, Sylvie Guillem, Carolyn Carlson, Jorma Elo, Jorma Uotinen, Susanna Leinonen and Andonis Foniadakis.

Over the years he has worked with companies like The Netherlands Dance Theatre, Tero Saarinen Company (FIN), Akram Khan Company (UK), The National Theater of Korea, Sadlers Wells (UK), Skånes Danse Teater (SWE), The Gothenburg Ballet (SWE), Ballet Gulbenkian (PT), The Joyce Theater (US), Jacobs Pillow (US), Grand Theatre du Quebec (CAN), Theatre National de la Danse Chaillot (FR), Opera de Lyon (FR), Opera Bastille (FR), Maison de la Danse Lyon (FR), DanseDanse Montreal (CAN), Boston Ballet (US), Philadelphia Ballet (US), Los Angeles Philharmonic (US), BAM New York (US), The Danish Royal Ballet (DK) and The Norwegian National Ballet (NOR) to name a few.

Mikki Kunttu is a world-renowned visual artist in the field of contemporary dance due to his unique signature in stage visuals.

Mikki Kunttu has created a number of designs for the most prestige classical ballet productions internationally. His designs for “Swan Lake” (2015 The Royal Danish Ballet), “The Nutcracker” (2014 Boston Ballet) and “A Folk Tale” (2010 The Royal Danish Ballet) have received international acclaim and have been featured in magazines and online publications around the world.

Kunttu has collaborated with ballet companies like Boston Ballet (US), The Royal Danish Ballet (DK), The Finnish National Ballet (FIN), The Norwegian National Ballet (NOR), The English National Ballet (UK) and Berlin Staatsballet (GER) to name a few.

Mikki Kunttu has created designs for both drama theater and musicals. His collaborators include some of Finland’s front row stage artists such as Seela Sella, Martti Suosalo and Maria Sid.

In Finland Kunttu has worked with the main theater companies like Svenska Teatern, Alexander Theater, Vasa Theater and also other freelance theater groups.

He has created the visuals for “Evita” at Göta Lejon Theater (SWE) and “Les Miserables” at Malmö Opera (SWE) as well as “The West Side Story” at Stockholm City Theater (SWE).

Mikki Kunttu’s opera productions include designs for a number of productions at the Finnish National Opera (FIN), The Norwegian National Opera (NOR) and The Royal Danish Opera (DK).

Kunttu has been comissioned a full production design for Richard Wagner’s “Ring” at The Finnish National Opera. The first of the four opera productions will open in 2019 and the last one in 2021.

Mikki Kunttu has designed visuals for various touring and concert productions. His collaborators include Nightwish, Michael Monroe, Hanoi Rocks, Apocalyptica and a number of Finland’s front row artists.

Mikki Kunttu’s television resume includes designs for Eurovision Song Contest in 2007, 2013 and 2016. Eurovision Song Contest is one of the largest television productions in the world with more than 200 million viewers including world-renowned artists such as Justin Timberlake.

In Finland Kunttu has designed a number of tv-seasons for programs like Strictly Come Dancing, Let’s Dance, Idols, Talent Finland, Dancing On Ice and many others.

Kunttu has also created special effects lighting for two dance films by the director Joe Davidow.
