Sen Guo

About this Artist

The Chinese soprano SEN GUO was born in Shanxi, China. She studied at the Shanghai Conservatory and the Zhou Xiao Yan Opera Center. During her studies, she won the China Vocal Competition and the Hong Kong Competition for Young Asian Musicians. 

In 2001/02 she was a member of the International Opera Studio Zurich, where she sang Dardané in the studio production of Gluck’s Die Pilger von Mekka. Her professional career started when she sang the role of Queen of the Night (The Magic Flute) as her debut at the Semperoper Dresden, the Berlin State Opera Unter den Linden, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Hamburg State Opera, the Theater St. Gallen, and the Theater an der Wien. She has also sung Olympia (Les Contes d’Hoffmann) at the Zurich Tonhalle; Violetta (La Traviata), Gilda (Rigoletto), and Musetta (La Bohème) in Shanghai; and Oscar (Un Ballo in Maschera) in Beijing. 

As a member of the ensemble of the Zurich Opera House since 2002/03, she has portrayed Frasquita (Carmen), Blumenmädchen (Parsifal), Voce dal cielo (Don Carlo), Musetta, Fiakermilli (Arabella), Zerbinetta (Ariadne auf Naxos), Amaltea (Mosè in Egitto), Giulia (La Scala di Seta), and Gilda, among others. More recently, she could be heard at the Zurich Opera House as the Queen of the Night, as Nanetta (Falstaff), Clorinda (La Cenerentola), and Oscar; and as Clorinda in Monte Carlo, Amsterdam, and Versailles.
