About this Artist
Ethan Bearman joined the Los Angeles Philharmonic horn section in 2008 and has performed and toured extensively with the orchestra. Favorite recordings include Mahler, Brahms, and Dvorak symphonies; contemporary works of Adès and Norman; and John Williams film music—several of which have earned Grammy Awards. Performances on tour have regularly taken him to stages throughout Europe, Asia, and the Americas.
Bearman grew up in Altadena, studying horn with LA Phil hornist Brian Drake, who encouraged him to attend the Cleveland Institute of Music. Following studies with Eli Epstein of The Cleveland Orchestra, he settled in Ithaca, performing with orchestras in Upstate NY and the Cornell new music group while his wife, Fina, earned her veterinary degree at Cornell.
Returning to Los Angeles in 2002, Bearman performed as guest with the LA Phil, Pacific Symphony Orchestra, Santa Barbara Symphony, and Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra, and contributed to film and television recordings. During this time, he started a family and, while raising young children, honed the craft of auditioning—a process he estimates took upwards of 60 attempts.
Bearman has taught master classes in the US, Japan, and Venezuela and performed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. He and Fina, who has built a thriving veterinary practice in Downtown LA, live in Pasadena and are the parents of two college-aged sons.
