Renaissance Arts Academy Orchestra

About this Artist

RENAISSANCE ARTS ACADEMY is a Charter Public School serving 320 middle and high school students in Northeast Los Angeles. RenArts was founded to provide equitable arts training to public school students in the belief that arts achievement and academic excellence go hand in hand. There are no auditions, interviews, or prerequisites – admission is by lottery and 95% of incoming students have no prior arts training. RenArts’ academic program is built around professionally-guided training in classical music and dance. With unrestricted use of musical instruments, students receive group instruction in strings, voice, music theory, and dance during the school day plus a tuition-free after-school Conservatory with four orchestras, eleven dance companies, three choirs, percussion ensembles and chamber music groups. Proud to be an L.A. Philharmonic partner school, RenArts has a strong record of academic success built on student and faculty commitment to the educational centrality of the arts and the value of shared artistic discipline – physical focus, intellectual engagement and collaboration. The transfer of these traits to student academic success is demonstrated in RenArts’ 877 API and 100% graduation rate. RenArts has received multiple recognitions, including the 2010 California Charter School of the Year Award, consecutive Title 1 Academic Achievement Awards, the California Distinguished School Award, and the Music Center Bravo Award for Outstanding Arts Program.
