About this Artist

Soprano HEIDI GRANT MURPHY has appeared with many of the world's finest opera companies and symphony orchestras, notably the Metropolitan Opera, Salzburg Festival, Netherlands Opera, and Opéra National de Paris. She has been engaged as a soloist with the Boston Symphony, Chicago Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Munich Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestras and Vienna Philharmonic.

Murphy began the 2002/2003 season with summer appearances at the Verbier, Tanglewood, and La Jolla festivals. She returns to the Metropolitan Opera as Constance in Poulenc's Dialogues of the Carmelites and debuts as Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier with the Bavarian State Opera.

In February she makes her Lincoln Center Great Performers recital debut, with additional recitals at Bucknell University and in Raleigh, North Carolina. In April she sings the North American premiere of John Tavener's Iero Oniero with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. In May she gives the world premiere performances of Roberto Sierra's Beyond the Silence of Sorrows (texts by N. Scott Momaday) with Gerard Schwarz and the Seattle Symphony and also performs in John Adams' El Niño with Robert Spano and the Atlanta Symphony. Additional symphonic engagements are Handel's Ode for St. Cecilia's Day with the New York Philharmonic and Kurt Masur, Bach and Schubert with the San Francisco Symphony, and Mozart's Mass in C minor with James Levine and the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, as well as appearances with the National Symphony, the Minnesota Orchestra, and the Kansas City Symphony.

In the spring of 2003, Koch International will release two new CDs: a disc of musical theater and another of Latin love songs to include both commissioned works and cultural classics. Clearings in the Sky and To a Child Dancing in the Wind, her two most recent releases for Arabesque Recordings and Koch, were both met with strong praise. Additional recording projects are Vincent Youmans' Through the Years for PS Classics; Twilight and Innocence, a recital disc for Arabesque; Mahler's Symphony No. 2 for Delos; Bach repertoire for Arabesque; Idomeneo (Ilia) and Le nozze di Figaro (Barbarina) with James Levine on the Deutsche Grammophon label; and the Grammy-nominated Sweeney Todd (Johanna) for the New York Philharmonic's private label.

Heidi Grant Murphy resides in New York City with her husband and two children.
