Soprano TONY ARNOLD was thrust into the international spotlight when she became the first vocalist ever to win First Prize in the Gaudeamus International Interpreters Competition (Rotterdam, Holland). On the heels of that triumph, Arnold took First Prize at the 15th McMahon International Music Competiton (USA). In recent years Arnold has gained worldwide recognition as a leading specialist in new vocal repertoire. Her work has focused on some of the most innovative composers of our time, including György Ligeti, Thomas Adès, Luciano Berio, György Kurtág, George Crumb, Bernard Rands, Elliott Carter, and Oliver Knussen.

Tony Arnold’s recording of George Crumb's Ancient Voices of Children was nominated for a Grammy and has been followed by a series of critically acclaimed CDs on the Bridge and Naxos labels. These recordings include Carter’s Of Challenge and of Love; Crumb’s Madrigals; Berio’s Sequenza; Milton Babbitt’s Quatrains; Stefan Wolpe’s Early Songs; and Tania León’s Singin’ Sepia. Arnold’s recording of Kurtág’s Kafka Fragments includes a film made in Budapest, with Arnold working alongside the composer. Arnold was also the featured performer in the film George Crumb: Bad Dog premiered in London at the BBC’s George Crumb 80th birthday celebration. The film has since been released on DVD (Bridge Records).
