About this Artist
Brian Johnson, double bassist, joined the Los Angeles Philharmonic in November 2013 at the invitation of Music Director Gustavo Dudamel. Prior to that, he was a member of the Oregon Symphony (2011–2013) and the Kansas City Symphony (2010–2011). He has also performed with the National Symphony, Seattle Symphony, Atlanta Symphony, and Nashville Symphony.
Brian earned his Bachelor of Music degree from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music in 2008 and his Master of Music degree from the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University in 2010. His primary teachers were Bruce Bransby, Timothy Pitts, and Christopher Hanulik.
From 2007 to 2012, Brian was a six-time fellow at the Aspen Music Festival and School in Colorado. A native of Oregon, he graduated from the Grammy-honored Sprague High School.
Brian has served on the faculty at California State University, Fullerton, and the Idyllwild Arts Academy. He has also been a guest lecturer at UCLA and has given masterclasses at the University of Southern California and various other universities and youth orchestras across the country.
An avid outdoorsman, Brian enjoys running, hiking, snowboarding, and golfing in his free time.
