About this Artist
XIBEI JIA arrived in Los Angeles almost two years ago from her native city of Chengdu, in Sichuan, China. She is now 16 years old and a 10th grade student at the Aube Tzerko Piano Academy of New Roads School in Santa Monica. In the short time she has been in Los Angeles Xibei has already won numerous musical honors. She has appeared as soloist with the Westchester-Marina and the Pacific Palisades Community Orchestras. She holds the Young Musicians Foundation Fred Bock Memorial Scholarship, has won the West Los Angeles Music Teachers Asst. Alice Kitchen Scholarship Competition, the state MTAC Concerto Competition, and is currently a finalist in the Rotary Club’s Young Musician Competition. Xibei recently won the Music Center Spotlight Awards, a competition held at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. She has presented recitals for the Foothill and Westside Junior Philharmonic Committees, and participated in Master Classes with Murray Perahia, John Perry, Max Levinson, William Nabore, and Dmitry Bashkirov.
Xibei is a piano student of Mary Ann Cummins in Santa Monica. In addition to her busy musical schedule, Xibei is busy with classes at New Roads, while at the same time learning to master the English language. For this performance Xibei is proud to be wearing a dress designed and made by her mother.
