About this Artist
Prof. Dora Hristova, PhD, is the artistic director
and conductor of the Bulgarian female
vocal choir Le Mystère des Voix Bulgares.
She is a Professor at the Art Academy in
Plovdiv, Bulgaria, and a graduate of the
Bulgarian State Conservatory.
In 1985 she received her doctor’s degree
for “Problems of Interpretation in Contemporary
Bulgarian Choral Music.” She experiments
in the fields of sonority and different
vocal ensemble sounds.
Prof. Hristova received the Grammy as
the conductor of most of the pieces on the
CD Le Mystère des Voix Bulgares Volume II
(1990), and she also had a second nomination
for Rituals in 1994.
Her international success includes
around 1250 concerts in the world’s most
prestigious halls, including Royal Festival
Hall and the Barbican Centre in London; Avery
Fisher Hall in Lincoln Center, New York;
Washington’s Kennedy Center; Boston’s
Symphony Hall; Symphony Hall in Chicago;
the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam; Walt
Disney Concert Hall, Los Angeles; and many
others in North and South America, Europe,
and Asia.
