Violist JOHN HAYHURST joined the Los Angeles Philharmonic in 1984 after two seasons as a member of the Denver Symphony. Hayhurst was the viola soloist with the LA Phil in performances of the Tippett Triple Concerto with André Previn and has performed in the LA Phil’s Chamber Music and New Music Group series as well as numerous chamber music programs in Los Angeles County.

Hayhurst is on the faculty at the Colburn School of Music and has taught at USC and California State University, Long Beach. His students have or are currently attending prestigious conservatories including the Juilliard School, the University of Southern California, Northwestern University, Oberlin, Rice, Eastman, and the Manhattan School of Music.

Hayhurst graduated from the University of Southern California and the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he studied with Robert Vernon, principal violist of the Cleveland Orchestra.
