JORGE DE LEON was born in Santa Cruz de Tenerife where he studied music and singing with Isabel Garcia Soto at the Conservatory Santa Cruz de Tenerife and later continued his studies in Italy with Giuseppe Valdengo and in Spain with Alfonso De Leoz. In 1998, he won first prize at IV Villa Abaran national contest in Murcia, followed by performances with the Auditorio Nacional (Madrid), Palau de la Música de Valencia, Auditorio del CICCA (Gran Canaria), Santander, Huelva, Gerona and Galicia at Xacoveo 99.

In 2003, he performed with the Dúo de la Africana in Tenerife and in Madrid, La del manojo de rosas and a Noel concert at Auditorio Nacional with the Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Pascual Osa. In 2004 he won First Prize in the 10th annual Julian Gayarre competition and the Jose Carreras award as best tenor. His winning streak continued in 2005 when he was awarded Second Prize in the Jaume Aragall contest.

He has sung the role of Radames in Aida and the title role in Andrea Chenier in Nice and Madrid, Don Jose in Carmen in Murcia and Málaga, the title role in Don Carlo in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Cavalleria rusticana in Valencia. Upcoming engagements include Mario Cavaradossi in  Tosca and  Don Jose in Carmen in Palermo and  Naples and I due Foscari in Trieste.

In 2010, he stepped in at the last minute in the title role of Andrea Chenier at the Teatro Real of Madrid. His performance was highly praised and led to invitations to perform in other operas Cavallería rusticana,  La vida Breve and Aida, conducted by Lorin Maazel and a performance of Carmen conducted by Zubin Metha at the Palau de Les Arts de Valencia. His career  took off from there and he has gone on to perform as many prestigious venues, including the Arena di Verona, Naples Opera, Florence Opera, Palermo Opera, La Scala in Milan and Vienna State Opera, among others.

Upcoming performances include Pinkerton in Madame Butterfly and Mario Cavaradossi in Tosca in Barcelona (Theatre Liceo), Radames in Aida in Palermo, the Arena di Verona and La Scala the Verdi Requiem, the title role of Don Carlos in Madrid at the Teatro Real and Don Jose in Carmen in Tel Aviv, Israel.
