Los Angeles, CA (June 9, 2016) - The 2016 edition of KCRW's World Festival at the Hollywood Bowl kicks off with a 15th anniversary celebration of the Bowl's annual night of reggae music, featuring Grammy-winning roots reggae godfather Burning Spear in his final performance in California. Of his farewell show, Spear commented, "For many years, I've been touring all over the world, and now I'll be performing my last shows in a number of places. California is home to one of my biggest fan bases in the U.S. and I could not walk away from the stage without performing for my many fans there. I thank the Hollywood Bowl for giving me the opportunity to do so."

Winston "Burning Spear" Rodney (O.D.) is an icon of '70s roots reggae. His politically sharp, idiosyncratic albums struck a dissonant chord in what was otherwise classic, knee-flexing Jamaican reggae. Throughout his four-decade career, Rodney has been nominated for a reggae-record 12 Grammys and has won two for Best Reggae Album, most recently for 2008's Jah Is Real. The keys to his success are the combination, in perfect proportion, of his reedy tenor, his Rasta philosophy, and the hypnotic grooves played by his eight- piece Burning band. Spear's influence has touched music royalty, with noted fans that include Sir Paul McCartney, Erykah Badu and the late B.B. King. The Jamaican-born artist is also a distinguished member of Jamaica's Order of Distinction, given to citizens who render outstanding services to their home country.

The 15th annual reggae night also features contemporary reggae trailblazer Ky-Mani Marley and chart-topping singer Etana, and is hosted by KCRW DJ Jeremy Sole. Due to unforeseen circumstances, previously announced artist Cocoa Tea will no longer be performing.

A member of reggae royalty, Ky-Mani Marley has for two decades mixed traditional reggae with hip-hop, R&B and jazz to create an idiom all his own. As a sought-after collaborator, he has worked with members of the Fugees and P.M. Dawn and Van Halen, and has even stretched his considerable talents into acting. The son of the legendary Bob Marley and Jamaican table tennis champion, Anita Belnavis, Ky-Mani is an East African term meaning "adventurous traveler," and, as a man living up to his name, each of his projects and performances is truly an adventure, including his current album, Maestro.

Since debuting in 2006 with the thought-provoking single "Wrong Address," the Jamaican-born singer Etana has established herself as one of the most powerful and distinctive voices in reggae, blazing a new trail in a genre that has long been male-dominated. Her 2014 album I, Rise, held the No. 1 spot on Billboard's Top Reggae Album for four weeks, making Etana the first woman to top the reggae charts in 17 years.
