Returning after his acclaimed Beethoven Sonata Cycle two seasons ago, Hungarian pianist András Schiff revisits Walt Disney Concert Hall to pay tribute to Schumann during his bicentennial year, Wednesday, October 13, at 8 p.m. The recital program features the German composer’s Waldszenen, Op. 82, Davidsbündlertänze, Op. 6, Kinderszenen, Op. 15, and Symphonic Etudes, Op. 13. The performance is the first event of the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s 2010/11 Colburn Celebrity series, which features some of the world’s leading virtuosos.

In October 2010, Mr. Schiff’s North American engagements focus on the solo piano works of Schumann and Mendelssohn. Future North American engagements focus on Hungarian themes.

Future recitals for the 2010/11 Colburn Celebrity recital series season include: violinist Midori (November 21, 2010); bass-baritone Bryn Terfel in his Walt Disney Concert Hall debut with pianist Malcolm Martineau (November 22, 2010); pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard (December 1, 2010); violinist Itzhak Perlman (January 25, 2011); pianist Simon Trp?eski (February 22, 2011); pianist Yefim Bronfman (March 9, 2011); and flutist Sir James Galway and the Emerson String Quartet (March 14, 2011).

The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association, under the vibrant leadership of Gustavo Dudamel, presents the finest in orchestral and chamber music, recitals, new music, jazz, world music and holiday concerts at two of the most remarkable locations anywhere to experience music – Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Hollywood Bowl. In addition to a 30-week winter subscription season at Walt Disney Concert Hall, the LA Phil presents a 12-week summer festival at the legendary Hollywood Bowl, summer home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and home of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. In fulfilling its commitment to the community, the Association’s involvement with Los Angeles extends to educational concerts, children's programming and community concerts, ever seeking to provide inspiration and delight to the broadest possible audience.
