Donna Summer to Be Inducted Into the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame
  • Jun. 18, 2010
  • WHAT:

Pop culture icon Donna Summer is the latest inductee to be announced for the 2010 Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame concert. Summer first appeared at the Hollywood Bowl in 1979, performing to sold-out crowds. She again performed before sold-out crowds when she appeared at the Bowl for two nights in 2008.

Donna Summer rocketed to international stardom in the mid-1970s and is one of a small group of artists to sell more than 100 million records, and is the first female to have four No. 1 singles in a 12-month period. Her 2008 release, Crayons, debuted in the top 20 on the album charts, in the top 5 on the R&B charts and included three No. 1 dance singles.

The multiple Grammy-winner and legendary singer-songwriter joins other 2010 inductees the Carpenters, accepted by Richard Carpenter, and classical pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet. Musician, composer and producer Herb Alpert will induct the Carpenters and the newly-inducted Hall of Famers will perform with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, led by Thomas Wilkins, in a celebration that kicks off the 2010 Opening Night at the Hollywood Bowl. Additional presenters and performers will be announced.

Proceeds from the evening benefit Music Matters, which supports LA Phil education programs. The Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame is created and produced by Wayne Baruch and Charles F. Gayton.
