About this Performance
The Angel City Jazz Festival presents a special concert with Billy Childs' Jazz-Chamber Ensemble, a groundbreaking project that, as its name suggests, merges improvisation and jazz rhythms with the orchestration and instrumentation of a traditional chamber ensemble.
Childs got his start playing with Freddie Hubbard and soon became a go-to sideman for artists like Joe Henderson and Wynton Marsalis, but he shines as a bandleader and composer, winning five Grammy Awards, including a pair for his “jazz-chamber” albums Lyric, Vol. 1 and Autumn: In Moving Pictures, Vol. 2. Grammy winner Dianne Reeves—one of the most acclaimed singers in jazz today—joins the party as a special guest.
