About this Performance
Cumbiatón LA is back for its third annual Noche de Cumbia at The Ford. The program offers a musical and visual exploration—featuring live-drawing of hypnotic visuals by Argentinian illustrator Dr. Alderete—of the evolution of the beloved Afro-Indigenous genre we know as cumbia. This year’s celebration is in honor of Mexican Independence Day, featuring Sonido Gallo Negro, a Mexican band that recaptures the roots of tropical psychedelic music directly from CDMX, and Boyle Heights’ very own É Arenas, a founding member and bassist/guitarist/vocalist of Chicano Batman.
The show is produced, hosted, and supported by Cumbiatón Los Angeles, a collective of artists that centers and uplifts marginalized communities across the US. This unforgettable night welcomes Los Angeles communities to share in the diversity, beauty, and resilience embodied in cumbia through a musical and visual experience.
