About this Performance

The Australian singer and musician Jessica Newham has spent the last decade-plus finding new ways to fearlessly express themselves as an artist. A trained classical cellist, Newham said she was playing Aida in the opera pit wishing to be onstage. Betty Who did just that, unleashing what Rolling Stone called “a whirlwind of Eighties pop and synth influences that can captivate festivals and intimate venues alike” across four albums since 2014.

In 2023, Newham took on a new challenge, playing the role of Persephone in Broadway’s Hadestown. The experience encouraged Newham “to be more brave” and to make the loudest, grandest music of their career. In announcing the Out of Darkness tour, Newham said the focus is “unapologetic joy, real connections, and celebrating the highs after the lows.” Backed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Betty Who brings new songs and go-to favorites reimagined with symphonic scale from across their career to The Ford.
