About this Performance

An American pioneer, composer, pianist, vocalist, and dancer Julius Eastman created some of the earliest examples of Minimalism, many of them provocative and emotion laden. Estonian composer Arvo Pärt lies on another part of the spectrum, having earned the label "mystic minimalist” for his ethereal instrumental and choral works. This program includes chamber-sized examples of their extraordinary and contrasting music.
