Mexico, de Ayer y Hoy
Presented by Pacifico Dance Company with special guests Mariachi Los Toros
Mexico, de Ayer y Hoy is a tapestry of works celebrating Pacífico Dance Company’s 28 years of colorful, cultural, and disciplined exuberance. Audiences will travel through distinct regional dances and explore the many cultural and historical influences that have shaped this art form. From indigenous ritualistic rain dances of the Yaqui people to the fiestas of Jalísco, Mexico, de Ayer y Hoy highlights the evolution of Mexican folklore throughout time. Notably, the piece includes a modern interpretation and deconstruction of Vera Cruz, which unwinds the strong Spanish flamenco and Afro-Caribbean musical influences that makes up the fabric of this region. The program will also include dances from Guerrero, Oaxaca, and Tamaulipas showing the diversity in movement and sound from coastal regions.
