LOS ANGELES (April 21, 2026) — The LA Phil today announces an addition to the Hollywood Bowl 2026 season: David Byrne: Who Is The Sky? for two nights only, Friday and Saturday, August 28 and 29, at 8PM. The Hollywood Bowl show dates are part of the continuation of Byrne’s epic world tour in support of his latest album Who Is The Sky? This announcement comes amid the Who Is The Sky? tour’s spring run of North American dates, which included the critically lauded Coachella performances.

Who Is The Sky?, released via Matador Records, is Byrne’s first album since releasing 2018’s acclaimed American Utopia, which was later adapted into a hit Broadway musical and HBO film. It was produced by the Grammy-winning Kid Harpoon (Harry Styles, Miley Cyrus), while its 12 songs were arranged by the members of New York-based chamber ensemble Ghost Train Orchestra. Guests include Paramore’s Hayley Williams, St. Vincent and The Smile drummer Tom Skinner.

“At my age, at least for me, there's a ‘don't give a shit about what people think’ attitude that kicks in,” Byrne says about the spirit behind Who Is The Sky? “I can step outside my comfort zone with the knowledge that I kind of know who I am by now and sort of know what I’m doing. That said, every new set of songs, every song even, is a new adventure. There’s always a bit of, ‘how do I work this?’ I’ve found that not every collaboration works, but often when they do, it’s because I’m able to clearly impart what it is I’m trying to do. They hopefully get that, and as a result, we’re now joined together heading to the same unknown place.”

Whether he’s playing an acoustic guitar onstage accompanied by only a tape machine, slow dancing with a lamp to one of the sweetest songs of the 20th century or disappearing into the marching band formations and dance moves of a large ensemble, David Byrne is always looking for one thing: human connection. As singer and leader of Talking Heads, Byrne wrote some of the most influential and deeply loved songs of the 1970s and 1980s—“Burning Down the House,” “Psycho Killer,” “Once in a Lifetime” and countless more. And, as is known by anyone who’s seen Jonathan Demme’s Talking Heads film Stop Making Sense or Spike Lee’s film of Byrne’s American Utopia Broadway show and tour, he brings the same level of delight and joy to his concerts that’s always been at the heart of his music.

Following the release of 2025’s Who Is The Sky? Byrne and his 13-member ensemble mounted a brand-new stage production featuring highlights from his work with Talking Heads and Brian Eno, as well as songs from across his solo career. This summer will see Byrne and his band playing across Europe and the UK as well as the two newly added shows at the Hollywood Bowl on August 28 and 29.
