  • Performances Mark Gautier Capuçon’s Walt Disney Concert Hall Debut

    FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 2011, AT 8 PM
    SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 2011, AT 8 PM
    SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 2011, AT 2 PM

    WHAT:

LA Phil Associate Conductor Lionel Bringuier leads the orchestra in three performances at Walt Disney Concert Hall, Friday, February 18, at 8 p.m., Saturday, February 19, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, February 20, at 2 p.m. Joining Bringuier is fellow French countryman Gautier Capuçon, in his Walt Disney Concert Hall debut, performing Robert Schumann’s Cello Concerto in the Friday, Saturday and Sunday performances. Also presented all three evenings is Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 5; the Saturday and Sunday programs open with Bedřich Smetana’s The Moldau. The Friday concert is part of the LA Phil’s Casual Fridays series, which features a shorter program, is presented without intermission and encourages audience members to attend in comfortable attire. These Casual Fridays concerts also feature a free TalkBack discussion with musicians held on stage after the performance and a chance to mingle with members of the orchestra in the Concert Hall Café.

Bringuier is in his fourth and final year in the role of Associate Conductor with the LA Phil. This season also marks his second year as Music Director of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León in Valladolid, Spain.

“It is Capuçon’s gift to play with warm intensity…and the result is magical…” says Gramophone. The young French cellist returns to Walt Disney Concert Hall in June with his violinist brother Renaud in an all-Brahms program, led by LA Phil Music Director Gustavo Dudamel.
