    WHAT:
    British composer Mark-Anthony Turnage’s LA Phil-commissioned work Hammered Out, receives its U.S. premiere with the LA Phil under the baton of Finnish conductor Susanna Mälkki, Saturday, November 13, at 2 p.m., and Sunday, November 14, at 2 p.m. The program also features Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 1, K. 207, featuring LA Phil Principal Concertmaster Martin Chalifour, and Strauss’ Also sprach Zarathustra. The weekend opens with a Friday, November 12, 8 p.m. performance that includes the Mozart and Strauss selections. The Friday concert is part of the LA Phil’s Casual Fridays series, which features a shorter program, is presented without intermission and encourages audience members to attend in comfortable attire. These Casual Fridays concerts also feature a free TalkBack discussion with musicians held on stage after the performance and a chance to mingle with members of the orchestra in the Concert Hall Café.

    The performances mark Susanna Mälkki’s Los Angeles Philharmonic and Walt Disney Concert Hall debuts.

    Upbeat Live pre-concert events take place in Walt Disney Concert Hall’s BP Hall one hour prior to each concert, and are free to all ticket holders. Christopher Russell, Director of Orchestral Studies at Azusa Pacific University and Coordinator of the Orchestra Program at Orange County High School of the Arts, hosts.

    Tickets ($44 - $167) are on sale now at the Walt Disney Concert Hall Box Office, online at LAPhil.com, or via credit card by phone at 323.850.2000. When available, choral bench seats ($18) will be released for sale to selected Philharmonic, Colburn Celebrity Series, and Baroque Variations performances beginning at noon on the Tuesday of the second week prior to the concert. A limited number of $10 rush tickets for seniors and full time students may be available at the Walt Disney Concert Hall box office two hours prior to the performance. Valid identification is required; one ticket per person; cash only. Groups of 12 or more may be eligible for special discounts for selected concerts and seating areas.
